What is off licance?

An off licence or "off-licence" (in British English) is a term commonly used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and some Commonwealth countries to refer to a store that sells alcoholic beverages for consumption off the premises. These stores are licensed to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption off the premises and typically sell beer, wine, spirits, and other alcoholic beverages. Off-licences are often smaller, independent shops that are usually located in or near residential areas. They are often open longer hours than regular pubs or liquor stores and are popular with people who want to buy alcohol outside of normal drinking hours or on Sundays. Off-licences may also sell snacks and food items that complement alcoholic beverages. In some areas, off-licences are required to close earlier than pubs and bars. In the United Kingdom, the term "off-licence" is sometimes used interchangeably with the term "off-trade" to refer to the retail sale of alcohol intended for consumption off the premises.
